Yesterday, I managed to drive to this beautiful waterfall in Chattanooga.
The drive to this small town was amazing. There were lush green trees on both side of I-24. There were beautiful mountains. It was 2 hour drive from Nashville. I had to buy 28$ ticket from their website.
Unlike other tourist places, they still have guides and I think that is what makes paying worthwhile. They made groups of 25-26 people and assigned each group a guide. My guide was a young lady named Lilian. She was really loud and very audible till the back of the group (we were a single line in a cave). I did not like walking with her. She would scream loudly in this cave to make sure everyone in the back heard her and I am sure that most people in the group appreciated that. I felt that it was torture to my eardrums. I would advice to manage a reasonable distance from guides, not too much and not too less
She explained the differences between stalagmite and stalactite. I remember listening these words in school and they never made any sense, until I saw the process in person. It takes 100 years worth of erosion to make 0.5 inch of stalactite deposit. Humans have oils on skin and touching this formation will stop their formation for 10 years.
I think this cave is mostly same as the most other caves in Eastern US. The only major difference is waterfall. It was amazing sight and should be seen in person. To make tour last long or just to make it more entertaining, they started with a small hollywood style movie about the cave’s explorer and his beautiful wife Ruby, which lasted for about 10-15 minutes. The time at the waterfall was only 5 minutes.
There are a lot of stairs involved in reaching to this place
After looking at this waterfall and taking multiple pictures, tour guide mentioned that ticket also included view from lookout mountain tower. They have elevator up to 2nd floor of the tower and there are 2 staircases after that. It was really beautiful evening. The sun was shining and there were very few clouds in the sky. Weather was perfect due to evening time. I was able to take the above picture and it reminded me of the drawings I made in my primary school art classes.
